Abstract :
A one-dimensional cobalt phosphate, (R, S)-(C5H14N2) Co(HPO4)2 1 has been synthesized in a predominantly nonaqueous environment by using (R, S)-2-methylpiperazine as templates and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. 1 has a socalled square-twisted (ts) chain containing corner-sharing four-ring of alternating CoO4 and PO4 tetrahedra. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/n with a=8.6115(2) ?, b=14.4387(1) ?, c=10.8109(2) ?, =95.535(1)°, V=1245.28 ?3, Z=4. Refinement gave R1=0.0333, wR2=0.0812 for 2263 unique observed reflections (I>2(I)).
