Abstract
Patches of saline water were detected near a tip of a reclaimed land (a man-made headland) in the coastal waters of Ise Bay, Japan, from CTD casts. In addition, acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) observations indicated that the reclaimed land generated local eddies. A hydraulic model and a numerical model provided evidence that the patches were formed by vortices shed at the headland in reversing tidal currents.
