Abstract
In 1993 coronary artery bypass surgery resulted in a mean postoperative length of stay of about 8.5 days. With changing reimbursements and fast tract protocols this was decreased to about 7.0 days by 2002. However, with the use of new techniques it is possible to perform reliable and reproducible coronary artery bypass without the use of cardiopulmonary bypass. This has resulted in the ability to further decrease postoperative lengths of stay. Presented here is a case report regarding how an aggressive perioperative regimen can result in same day discharge following multivessel off-pump coronary artery bypass.
