Abstract :
Purpoe:
To invetigate the poible aociation of preumed macular choroidal waterhed vacular filling (PMWF), choroidal neovacularization, and ytemic vacular dieae in patient with age related macular degeneration.
Method:
In a retropective tudy, we evaluated 74 randomly elected indocyanine green videoangiogram of 74 patient with age-related macular degeneration. We alo reviewed the chart of 20 randomly elected, age-matched control patient without age-related macular degeneration, initially referred for uniocular condition, and ubequently performed indocyanine green videoangiography on their normal fellow eye. We evaluated thee videoangiogram for the preence of PMWF, manifeting a characteritic early choroidal hypofluorecence and it relation to choroidal neovacularization when preent. Additionally, the incidence of hypertenion, coronary artery dieae, peripheral vacular dieae, and diabete mellitu wa determined.
Reult:
Forty-one (55.4%) of 74 patient with age-related macular degeneration v three (15.0%) of 20 normal control patient exhibited PMWF on indocyanine green videoangiography (P = .0014). Of the 61 patient with age-related macular degeneration and choroidal neovacularization, 36 (59.0%) exhibited PMWF on videoangiography. Aociated choroidal neovacularization aroe from the PMWF zone in 33 (91.7%) of thee cae. Hypertenion wa oberved in 24 (58.5%) of 41 patient with age-related macular degeneration and PMWF v nine (27.3%) of 33 patient with age-related macular degeneration who did not exhibit PMWF ((P = .007)).
Concluion:
An increaed incidence of PMWF occur in patient with age-related macular degeneration with a poible predipoition for the development of aociated choroidal neovacularization. Additionally, PMWF may be accentuated by aociated hypertenive choroidal microvacular inult.
