Patient propectively graded a elf-adminitered 5-point cale for pain and a 4-point cale for abnormal enation at 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20 hour after urgery. Reult The oft contact len group (n = 24) dicloed a tatitically ignificant (P <.05) reduction in pain intenity and abnormal enation that wa greatet at 8, 12, 16, and 20 hour potoperatively. Compared with control patient (n = 23), the oft contact len group howed ignificant decreaed dependence on mot pain medication after the 12th hour (P <.05) and fater epithelial healing (P =.03). However, one cae of bacterial keratiti, two cae of ubepithelial infiltrate, and even cae of contact len intolerance were preent in the oft contact len group. Concluion The ProTek therapeutic oft contact lene were effective in decreaing pain and other related abnormal enation after excimer photorefractive keratectomy. They decreaed dependence on pain medication and hatened epithelial healing but were not well tolerated in ome patient.
