Abstract
Purpoe
To preent a novel experimental approach for treating irregular corneal atigmatim.
Method
After decompoition of topographic analyi data into orthogonal Zernike polynomial, a regular target urface wa defined, and the ablation profile wa calculated. In a polymethylmethacrylate with an irregular urface, computer-controlled ablation wa performed uing a 193-nm excimer laer in “flying-pot mode”.
Reult
The difference between flattet and teepet hemimeridian in the 3-mm zone, urface regularity index, and urface aymmetry index were reduced from 8.7 to 1.1 diopter, 1.19 to 0.39, and 1.84 to 0.14, repectively.
Concluion
Tying corneal topography into laer oftware offer a traightforward concept for correction of irregular corneal atigmatim in an experimental model.
