Abstract :
Purpoe
To determine the efficacy and afety of limbu-baed v fornix-baed conjunctival flap in patient with primary open-angle glaucoma undergoing trabeculectomy combined with phaco-emulification and intraocular len implantation with adjunctive ubconjunctival mitomycin C.
Method
In a propective tudy, 69 eye of 69 patient with primary open-angle glaucoma, viually ymptomatic cataract, and no previou inciional ocular urgery were randomly aigned to limbu-baed and fornix-baed conjunctival flap group. All patient received trabeculectomy combined with phacoemulification and poterior chamber len implantation with 1-minute (0.5 mg/ ml) application of ubconjunctival mitomycin C.
Reult
The mean intraocular preure were ignificantly (P < .05 ) lower on ignificantly (P < .05) fewer medication potoperatively at 1 week, 1 month, 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15 to 18 month, and at lat follow-up in both group than they had been preoperatively. However, there were no ignificant (P > .05) difference in potoperative mean intra-ocular preure, mean number of medication, and viual acuity between the two group at any time interval. Hypotony with wound leak wa ignificantly (P = .019) higher in the limbu-baed group. Other potoperative complication were not ignificantly (P > .05) different between the two group.
Concluion
There wa no notable difference in glaucoma control or viual outcome between limbu-baed and fornix-baed conjunctival flap in primary trabeculectomy combined with phacoemulification and len implantation with adjunctive ubconjunctival mitomycin C. The fornix-baed flap wa a afe a, if not afer than, the limbu-baed flap in the glaucoma triple procedure with adjunctive ubconjunctival mitomycin C.
