Abstract :
Purpoe
To decribe a new type of aftercataract that contain a liquefied, milky white ubtance between the len optic and the poterior len capule.
Method
We reviewed the medical record of 41 patient identified a having thi type of aftercataract.
Reult
All 41 eye (41 patient) underwent uneventful phacoemulification after continuou curvilinear capulorhexi and implantation of a poterior chamber intraocular len made from polymethylmethacrylate. Two month to 6 year after urgery (average ± D, 3.8 ±1.7 year), fibroi wa noted evenly along the entire circumference and between the anterior urface of the intraocular len optic and the edge of the capular opening created by continuou curvilinear capulorhexi. Thi led to formation of a cloed chamber between the intraocular len and the poterior len capule, which then accumulated a liquefied, milky white ubtance. Twenty-three of the 41 eye howed liquefied aftercataract in conjunction with other type of aftercataract: in 12 eye with fibroi, in 11 eye with Elchnig pearl, and in one eye with a oemmering ring. None of the eye had any ign of inflammation; ix of the 41 eye had reduced viual acuity caued excluively by the liquefied aftercataract. Before cataract urgery, 14 eye were diagnoed with diabetic retinopathy, four with glaucoma, and two with uveiti.
Concluion
We report a new type of aftercataract characterized by a liquefied, milky white ubtance that accumulate between the len optic and the poterior len capule when the anterior capular opening, originally created by continuou curvilinear capulorhexi, become occluded with the len optic.
