Argon Laer Therapy of Benign Tumor of the Eyelid Original Reearch Article

Purpoe: To report the therapy of benign eyelid tumor with an argon laer a an alternative to urgery. Method: Forty-one patient with 47 benign tumor of the eyelid were included in thi tudy. In all patient, the eyelid tumor wa eliminated by argon laer. In 24 cae the lower eyelid and in 23 cae the upper eyelid wa involved, including the lid margin in 17 cae. Laer pot ize ranged from 150 to 500 μm. Argon laer power denity varied between 4.1 and 61.1 W/mm[2]. pot were counted between 40 and 1204. Twenty-even of 4l patient treated were followed up; the mean follow-up period wa 5.8 month (range, 3 to 24 month). Potoperatively, hitologic confirmation wa obtained in 42 cae of the 47 treated tumor. Reult: All patient were atified regarding the laer therapy and the cometic reult. Remarkably, the wound were dry after argon laer therapy. No infection of the wound occurred; wound were epithelialized after 2 to 3 week by a normal-appearing epithelium. The area of argon laer treatment wa le pigmented than the urrounding kin and howed no obviou remarkable notche. A a complication, one patient developed a viral conjunctiviti. No relape occurred during follow-up. Concluion: Argon laer therapy of benign eyelid tumor may reult in very atifactory wound healing. Taking the hort follow-up and the limited number of cae into account, it eem to be a ueful alternative to traditional urgery, epecially for tumor poitioned cloe to the lacrimal papillae.
