Abstract
Purpoe: To invetigate whether gelatinae A and B are involved in the pathogenei of proliferative vitreoretinal diorder.
Method: In a propective tudy of 101 conecutive patient, vitreou and paired erum ample were obtained from 38 patient with rhegmatogenou retinal detachment complicated by proliferative vitreoretinopathy, 25 patient with rhegmatogenou retinal detachment with no proliferative vitreoretinopathy, and 38 patient with proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Gelatinae activitie were determined by quantitative zymography.
Reult: All vitreou ample contained comparable level of the contitutive gelatinae A. Inducible gelatinae B wa detected in eight (32%) of 25 vitreou ample from patient with rhegmatogenou retinal detachment with no proliferative vitreoretinopathy (mean ± D, 319.5 ± 521.0 canning unit), in 17 (44.7%) of 38 vitreou ample from patient with proliferative vitreoretinopathy (560.6 ± 718.9 canning unit), and in 34 (89.5%) of 38 vitreou ample from patient with proliferative diabetic retinopathy (1,707.2 ± 1,220.3 canning unit). The incidence of detection of gelatinae B in proliferative diabetic retinopathy cae wa ignificantly higher than it wa in rhegmatogenou retinal detachment with no proliferative vitreoretinopathy and proliferative vitreoretinopathy cae (P < .001). Gelatinae B level in the vitreou ample of patient with proliferative diabetic retinopathy were higher than the level found in patient with rhegmatogenou retinal detachment with no proliferative vitreoretinopathy and in patient with proliferative vitreoretinopathy (P = .0152). Gelatinae A wa detected in all the teted era, wherea none of the teted paired erum ample contained detectable gelatinae B activity.
Concluion: Gelatinae B may play an important role in extracellular matrix degradation aociated with neovacularization in proliferative diabetic retinopathy.
