Abstract :
Purpoe: To decribe four cae of deluion of paraitoi in which elf-inflicted ocular trauma occurred. Deluion of paraitoi i a omatic deluional diorder in which patient have the irrational belief that their bodie are infeted by paraite or other infectiou organim. elf-inflicted trauma can reult from attempt to eliminate the uppoed infetation.
Method: We reviewed the cae hitorie of four patient (one male, three female, 35 to 45 year of age) who preented with complaint of ocular infetation but had no evidence of infectiou ocular dieae. The characteritic of thee cae were compared with the feature of deluion of paraitoi.
Reult: All patient maintained their belief regarding infetation, depite extenive clinical and laboratory invetigation that found no evidence of infectiou dieae. elf-inflicted eye injury, aociated with attempt to eliminate the infetation, occurred in each cae.
Concluion: The cae preented in thi report are conitent with a diagnoi of deluion of paraitoi. The eye can be a principal focu of attention in thi diorder, which may lead to viion lo caued by elf-inflicted injury.
