  • Abstract
PURPOE: To evaluate the complication of laer-induced chorioretinal venou anatomoi in nonichemic central retinal vein occluion (CRVO) and to identify the aociated rik. METHOD: A retropective conecutive erie of 91 eye (91 patient) with nonichemic CRVO with a mean ± D duration of 15.0 ± 15.2 week (range, 3 to 72 week )and corrected viual acuity reduced to 20/100 or le becaue of perfued macular edema were reviewed. All eye had one or more anatomotic attempt uing argon laer (combined with Nd-YAG laer in 46 eye) and a minimum of 12 month of follow-up. REULT: ucceful chorioretinal venou anatomoe were created in 49 eye (54%). Eighteen eye (20%) had neovacular complication. Thee conited of intravitreal, intraretinal, and ubretinal neovacular membrane and were ignificantly aociated with retinal ichemia (P < .001). There wa avacular fibrou tiue proliferation at the anatomotic ite in eight eye (9%), and it wa not aociated with retinal ichemia (P = .727). No eye developed further capillary nonperfuion once an anatomoi became functional. A chorioretinal venou anatomoi wa aociated with improved viion (P < .001); 84% of eye had an average ± D improvement of 4.3 ± 3.8 line (range, 2 to 20 line), with the remaining 16% having no improvement or reduced viion. CONCLUION: The major viion-threatening complication of laer-induced chorioretinal venou anatomoi for nonichemic CRVO i neovacular membrane occurring at the anatomotic ite; thee are aociated with retinal ichemia. Prompt laer photocoagulation to area of retinal ichemia that develop after the anatomotic attempt ha been made may reduce the rik and everity of thi complication.
