Abstract :
PURPOE
Aqueou melanin granule are eential in the pathogenei of pigment diperion yndrome and pigmentary glaucoma. We quantified aqueou melanin granule with the laer flare-cell meter in patient with pigment diperion yndrome, aeed the meaurement reproducibility, and correlated the number with clinical finding.
METHOD
Aqueou melanin granule were counted by mean of the cell count mode of the laer flare-cell meter (KOWA FC-1000; Kowa, Tokyo, Japan) in 42 eye of 21 patient with primary pigment diperion yndrome under three condition (undilated pupil, dilated pupil, after exercie). The reproducibility of the meaurement wa determined with the intracla correlation coefficient. A control group of 40 age- and ex-matched eye wa alo examined after pupillary dilation. The reult were correlated with biomicrocopic finding in eye with pigment diperion yndrome (retrocorneal Krukenberg pindle, iri tranillumination, pigmentation of trabecular mehwork).
REULT
Numerou aqueou melanin granule were detected in eye with pigment diperion yndrome (mean, 2.9 ± 3.7 granule/0.075 mm3) but only mall number were counted in normal eye (0.2 ± 0.3, P < .001). Medical pupil dilation caued an additional increae of aqueou melanin granule in pigment diperion yndrome (6.3 ± 5.3, P < .001), but not undilated exercie (climbing tair) (2.9 ± 3.7, P > .5). The reproducibility of the meaurement wa very high (intracla coefficient >0.92). The number of melanin granule correlated with the degree of Krukenberg pindle (r = .61, P = .004) and with iri tranillumination (r = .69, P = .001).
CONCLUION
Quantification of aqueou melanin granule yield reproducible reult and how increaed number in pigment diperion yndrome, epecially after pupillary dilation. Aqueou melanin granule quantification may be ueful for evaluating eye with pigment diperion yndrome and for aeing treatment effect
