Abstract :
PURPOE: To report the efficacy and afety of fluorecein angiography after oral adminitration of fluorecein olution in a large number of patient during a period of 8 year.
METHOD: A total of 1,787 patient (2,625 eye) underwent fluorecein angiography after oral adminitration of odium fluorecein at Hara Eye Hopital, Utunomiya, Japan, between January 1989 and March 1997. The ingetible olution wa 10 ml of 10% odium fluorecein, the ame material generally ued for injection in conventional fluorecein angiography. Retinal photography began 15 minute after ingetion and continued for 1 hour. The camera and the photography and film proceing technique were the ame a thoe ued for conventional fluorecein angiography uing injected odium fluorecein.
REULT: In 2,554 (97.3%) of 2,625 eye, photograph adequate for clinical ue were obtained. In 1,787 patient, no anaphylactic or other evere advere effect were oberved, and only 31 patient (1.7%) experienced minimal itching, dicomfort, or nauea after oral odium fluorecein intake. For condition uch a central erou chorioretinopathy, retinal vein occluion, diabetic retinopathy, and cytoid macular edema, ufficient information for clinical ue wa obtained.
CONCLUION: Fluorecein angiography uing orally adminitered odium fluorecein i generally effective and afe in tandard clinical practice.
