Abstract :
PURPOE: To determine the concordance in tructural outcome between fellow eye in patient undergoing diode laer peripheral retinal photocoagulation for threhold retinopathy of prematurity. METHOD: Record from 103 patient undergoing bilateral diode laer peripheral retinal photocoagulation for retinopathy of prematurity at three academic medical center were reviewed. Information regarding infant getational age, birth weight, characteritic of retinopathy of prematurity, laer treatment variable, complication, and tructural outcome were obtained. The data were analyzed to determine the rate of ucceful tructural outcome among all eye a well a the interocular outcome concordance. REULT: A ucceful tructural outcome wa oberved in 182 (88%) of the 206 eye. Eighty-eight patient (85.4%) had bilateral favorable outcome. Nine patient (8.7%) had bilateral unfavorable outcome, and ix patient (5.8%) had one favorable and one unfavorable eye. The outcome wa concordant between fellow eye in 94.2% of patient. Thi rate wa higher than predicted if fellow-eye outcome were truly independent (P < .00001) and did not depend on tudy center, laer etting, or location of the retinopathy of prematurity. eriou complication related to treatment were uncommon. CONCLUION: Diode laer peripheral retinal photocoagulation i a afe and effective procedure for treating threhold retinopathy of prematurity. The concordance of tructural outcome between fellow eye i higher than expected by chance and ugget that patient-pecific factor play a key role in treatment repone.
