Latex allergy aociated with the latex cover on the TonoPen

PURPOE: To decribe ign and ymptom of latex allergy aociated with the ue of the TonoPen (Mentor, Norwell, Maachuett) in a patient with evere latex allergy. METHOD: Cae report. In a 13-year-old girl with a hitory of evere latex allergy, intraocular preure wa obtained with a TonoPen. REULT: TonoPen cover that contained latex induced agitation, bilateral conjunctival injection, eyelid erythema, and eyelid edema in thi latex-allergic patient. Ue of a fingertip from a terile nonlatex glove provided accurate intraocular preure meaurement with the tono-pen, without a local or ytemic reaction. CONCLUION: In patient with latex allergie, TonoPen cover that contain latex may induce a ubtantial local and ytemic reaction.
