Age-related macular degeneration and optic dik morphology

PURPOE: To ae the relationhip between age-related macular degeneration and appearance of the optic dik. METHOD: By morphometric evaluation of wide-angle color fundu photograph, 143 patient with age-related macular degeneration were compared with 33 normal ubject and with 83 diabetic patient. REULT: ize and hape of the optic dik and ize of parapapillary atrophy did not vary ignificantly (P > .12) between the tudy group. CONCLUION: Age-related macular degeneration i not aociated with pecial feature in the appearance of the optic dik. Parapapillary atrophy, large or mall optic dik, and abnormal dik hape are neither rik factor nor protective factor of age-related macular degeneration.
