Abstract :
PURPOE: To invetigate the efficacy and afety of ketorolac tromethamine 0.5% ophthalmic olution (Acular; Allergan, Inc, Irvine, California) in the treatment of moderate to evere anterior egment inflammation developing after unilateral cataract urgery with intraocular len implantation. METHOD: Only patient who exhibited moderate or greater level of cell and flare 1 day after urgery were included in thi multicenter, double-maked, randomly aigned, parallel-group tudy. Topical ketorolac or vehicle olution (Allergan, Inc) wa adminitered to the treated eye four time daily, tarting the day after urgery and continuing for 14 day. REULT: Ketorolac wa ignificantly more effective than the vehicle olution in reducing anterior chamber cell (P ≤ .030) and flare (P ≤ .025), conjunctival erythema (P ≤ .046), ciliary fluh (P ≤ .006), tearing (P ≤ .012), photophobia (P ≤ .014), and pain (P ≤ .049). Half a many patient from the ketorolac group (14/51) were dicontinued from the tudy for lack of efficacy, compared with the vehicle group (28/51; P = .005). There wa no ignificant difference between ketorolac and the vehicle olution in change in viual acuity, intraocular preure, biomicrocopic or ophthalmocopic variable, or advere event. CONCLUION: Ketorolac tromethamine 0.5% ophthalmic olution i afe and provide ubtantial anti-inflammatory activity in the treatment of moderate to evere anterior egment inflammation developing after cataract urgery and intraocular len implantation.
