Abstract :
Purpoe: To invetigate the pathogenei of honeycombed cytoid macular edema in patient with diabete.
Method: The relationhip between the poterior hyaloid membrane and honeycombed cytoid macular edema wa examined in 24 eye of 20 patient with diabete who underwent vitrectomy for cytoid macular edema.
Reult: In 19 eye of 15 patient with diabete, the poterior hyaloid membrane wa attached to the macula, and in five eye of five patient, the poterior hyaloid membrane wa eparated from the macula. In 14 (74%) of the 19 eye with an attached poterior hyaloid membrane, honeycombed cytoid macular edema wa detected. Converely, honeycombed cytoid edema wa not detected in any of the five eye with poterior hyaloid detachment (P = .0059).
Concluion: Thee obervation demontrate a trong correlation between an attached poterior hyaloid membrane and the preence of honeycombed cytoid macular edema. We ugget that retinal traction by the poterior hyaloid membrane i involved in the pathogenei of honeycombed cytoid change in diabetic patient.
