  • Abstract
    PURPOE: To decribe a new urgical technique and early reult of external levator repair performed through a mall kin inciion. METHOD: A chart review of conecutive patient undergoing mall inciion external levator repair wa conducted. Thi modified external levator repair wa performed through an 8-mm eyelid creae inciion. Patient with unilateral or bilateral aponeurogenic blepharoptoi were candidate for the technique. Patient with exceive horizontal upper eyelid laxity and thoe requiring blepharoplaty in addition to blepharoptoi urgery did not undergo thi technique. Patient who underwent previou upper eyelid urgery or concurrent brow urgery were excluded from the review. Preoperative meaurement included upper eyelid margin reflex ditance, levator function, and degree of dermatochalai, a well a Goldmann viual field reult. Outcome meaure included incidence and type of intraoperative complication, potoperative upper eyelid poition (including margin reflex ditance, eyelid contour, and ymmetry), incidence and type of potoperative complication, and reviion or additional neceary urgery. REULT: Twenty-eight eyelid of 17 patient met tudy incluion criteria. Preoperative margin reflex ditance ± D averaged 0.8 ± 0.4 mm. Average length of follow-up wa 28 ± 5 week (range, 15 to 52 week). No ignificant intraoperative complication occurred. Potoperative margin reflex ditance averaged 3.7 ± 0.3 mm. Two eyelid were mildly undercorrected, and one demontrated moderately peaked contour potoperatively. atifactory eyelid poition and contour were achieved in 25 of 28 treated eyelid. No patient elected reoperation. CONCLUION: Early reult demontrated that mall inciion levator repair i afe and generally effective. Thi minimally invaive external levator repair i ueful for a carefully elected ubet of patient with aponeurogenic blepharoptoi.
