Abstract :
PURPOE: To compare the 24-hour diurnal ocular hypotenive efficacy of two doing regimen of latanoprot, once daily (8 image or 10 image), v timolol maleate, twice daily. METHOD: We meaured ix diurnal intraocular preure curve (6 image, 10 image, 2 image, 6 image, 10 image, and 2 image) in one randomly elected eye of 34 Greek patient newly diagnoed with primary open-angle glaucoma. The firt diurnal curve wa an untreated baeline. Patient began taking timolol 0.5%, twice daily, for 2 month. Patient were randomly aigned to latanoprot 0.005% given at 8 image or 10 image for 1 month and then changed to the other doing regimen for 1 month. A diurnal curve wa performed after each doing period. REULT: The baeline diurnal preure for all 34 ubject wa 23.1 ±3.7 mm Hg. The average intraocular preure at 6 image for patient who were given latanoprot in the evening (17.9 ± 2.9 mm Hg) wa tatitically lower than that in patient given timolol olution (20.1 ± 2.5 mm Hg, P = .003); however, patient who were given timolol demontrated a imilar diurnal intraocular preure (19.1 ± 2.8 mm Hg) to both morning (18.8 ± 3.7 mm Hg) and evening doe (18.8 ± 3.6 mm Hg) of latanoprot (P =.329). When the two latanoprot doage were compared directly, evening adminitration provided a tatitically lower intraocular preure at 10 image (P = .0001) and morning adminitration at 10 image (P = .0001). Thi tudy had an 80% power to exclude a 1.2–mm Hg difference between group. CONCLUION: Thi tudy indicate that in a mall population, both latanoprot and timolol are effective in lowering intraocular preure throughout a 24-hour period; however, latanoprot i mot effective in the 12-hour to 24-hour period after adminitration.
