Abstract :
PURPOE: To invetigate the functional tatu and quality of life of patient at a low-viion clinic and to evaluate the impact of low-viion ervice.
METHOD: Interview, including the Medical Outcome tudy 36-Item hort Form (F-36), the Viual Function-14 (VF-14), and the 51-item Field Tet Verion of the National Eye Intitute Viual Functioning Quetionnaire (NEI-VFQ), were adminitered to 156 conecutive patient 1 week before and 3 month after their low-viion clinic viit.
REULT: Low-viion patient cored lower (P < .001) in phyical functioning and role limitation caued by phyical and emotional health problem than publihed F-36 core of the age-appropriate United tate normal population, patient with congetive heart failure, and clinically depreed patient. Low-viion ervice were aociated with improvement in the ubjective functional tatu of 150 patient (98.7%) and were rated “very ueful” by 82 (53.9%) patient. The F-36 core did not change ignificantly after low-viion ervice. The VF-14 mean core improved from 35.8 to 41.2 (P < .001). Four NEI-VFQ ubcale core improved ignificantly (P < .001): general viion, near activitie, ditance activitie, and peripheral viion.
CONCLUION: The F-36, VF-14, and NEI-VFQ demontrate that low-viion clinic patient perceive marked impairment of functional tatu and quality of life. Low-viion ervice are aociated with high patient atifaction. Viion-targeted quetionnaire are more enitive than general health-related quality of life quetionnaire to change in functional tatu and quality of life after low-viion ervice, and they may help elucidate the outcome of low-viion ervice.
