Abstract :
PURPOE: To detect cytoid macular edema in conecutive eye with retiniti pigmentoa by mean of optical coherence tomography and to tudy the correlation between cro-ectional tructure and angiographic finding in cytoid macular edema. METHOD: In a propective tudy, cro-ectional image through the fovea were evaluated by mean of optical coherence tomography in 89 phakic eye of 46 patient with retiniti pigmentoa. Eye howing cytoid appearance in the macula in the optical coherence tomographic image were further tudied with meaurement of the dimenion of cytoid leion and with a fluorecein angiogram either at 18 minute after dye injection or later. REULT: Cytoid leion were oberved in the macula in optical coherence tomographic image in 12 eye in ix (13%) of 46 patient. In thee eye, the width of total area of the cytoid leion wa poitively correlated with the grade of fluorecein angiogram (pearman rank correlation coefficient, r = .629; P = .029), but the thickne of the neuroenory retina at the center of the fovea wa not. Among three variable for grading cytoid macular edema, coniting of angiographic grade, thickne of the neuroenory retina at the center of the fovea, and width of total area of the cytoid leion, only the lat meaure wa ignificantly correlated with bet-corrected viual acuity (Pearon correlation coefficient, r = .693; P = .012). CONCLUION: Cytoid macular edema in eye with retiniti pigmentoa could eaily be detected with the ue of optical coherence tomography independent of the angiographic degree of dye leakage. The ize of cytoid leion demontrated in the optical coherence tomographic image, epecially the thickne of the neuroenory retina at the center of the fovea, wa not necearily correlated with the angiographic grading of dye leakage. Meaurement of the width of total area of the cytoid leion in the optical coherence tomographic image i ignificantly correlated with the lo of viual acuity.
