  • Abstract
PURPOE: To ae retrobulbar blood flow velocitie and finger nailfold capillary blood flow velocitie (two readily acceible vacular bed) in ubject with primary hypercholeterolemia before and during lipid-lowering therapy. METHOD: Retrobulbar blood flow velocitie and finger nailfold capillary blood flow velocitie were aeed in 15 hypercholeterolemic ubject and in 15 age-matched and ex-matched healthy control ubject. In addition, the change in blood flow velocitie after a 3-month period of lipid-lowering therapy wa evaluated. REULT: No alteration in retrobulbar blood flow velocitie after lipid-lowering therapy could be oberved in hypercholeterolemic patient. Nailfold capillary blood flow velocity wa lower in hypercholeterolemic ubject than control ubject immediately after local cooling (P = .0052), but thi vacular dyregulation did not improve after lipid-lowering therapy (P = .58). CONCLUION: Blood flow alteration, potentially caued by perturbed vacular endothelial function, may occur in nailfold capillarie of hypercholeterolemic ubject. uch alteration were not een in retrobulbar veel, and blood flow meaure did not change during lipid-lowering therapy.
