Abstract :
PURPOE: To report a penetrating ocular injury reulting from inadvertent placement of a fetal calp monitoring piral electrode into the right eye of a preterm male with a face preentation. METHOD: Cae report and review of the literature. REULT: A piral electrode wa crewed clockwie into the right eye, tearing the inferior retina and creating two inferior iridotomie. evere myopic atigmatim reulted from gradual len dilocation combined with elongation of the eye. Depite peritent occluive therapy and aggreive optical correction, before and after lenectomy at age 3 year, viual acuity wa only 20/200 at age 8 year. CONCLUION: Although complication from piral monitoring electrode are uncommon, thi cae emphaize that before inerting a piral monitoring electrode during labor, face preentation mut be excluded to prevent inadvertent ocular injury.
