Abstract :
PURPOE:
A new complication i reported in aociation with high hyperopic excimer laer photorefractive keratectomy.
METHOD:
One thouand conecutive eye were treated with a Meditec MEL-60 excimer laer (Meditec Inc, Heroldberg, Germany) for hyperopic refractive error between +1 diopter and +7 diopter.
REULT:
Three eye with high hyperopic correction between +5 and +6 diopter had a central, round bump-like ubepithelial car develop 1 month after hyperopic photorefractive keratectomy, which reduced the uncorrected and pectacle-corrected viual acuity.
CONCLUION:
Central bump-like opacity i a new, viually ignificant complication of unknown origin aociated with high hyperopic photorefractive keratectomy. Poible caue of thi complication include drying and edema of the cornea a a reult of prolonged expoure, interruption of the peripheral uperficial nerve plexu affecting the central anterior troma, and abnormal epithelial or tear film function reulting from exceive central teeping.
