Retinal detachment aociated with a macular hole in everely myopic eye

PURPOE: To invetigate factor aociated with extenive retinal detachment in everely myopic eye with a macular hole. METHOD: Fifty-two conecutive eye with a macular hole and evere myopia were retropectively tudied. REULT: An extenive retinal detachment, defined a extending beyond the cuff of ubretinal fluid, wa oberved in 37 eye (71%). Extenive retinal detachment developed in 36 (95%) of 38 eye with a poterior taphyloma and in one (7%) of 14 eye without a poterior taphyloma (P < .0001). Extenive retinal detachment alo developed in 32 (89%) of 36 eye with complete poterior vitreou detachment and in five (31%) of 16 eye without poterior vitreou detachment (P < .0001). CONCLUION: Poterior taphyloma rather than anteropoterior vitreomacular traction may contribute to the development of retinal detachment aociated with a macular hole in everely myopic eye.
