Elevated adrenomedullin in the vitreou of patient with proliferative vitreoretinopathy

PURPOE: To explore the poible involvement of adrenomedullin in the pathophyiology of proliferative vitreoretinopathy. METHOD: The radioimmunoaay technique wa ued to determine immunoreactive adrenomedullin concentration in the vitreou fluid from 41 eye of 41 patient undergoing vitrectomy for a variety of retinal condition, including proliferative vitreoretinopathy, proliferative diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, and macular hole. REULT: Immunoreactive adrenomedullin level in the vitreou of patient with proliferative vitreoretinopathy were ignificantly higher than thoe of patient with proliferative diabetic retinopathy (P< .005), age-related macular degeneration (P< .001), and macular hole (P< .0001). CONCLUION: Adrenomedullin may be involved in the pathophyiology of proliferative vitreoretinopathy
