  • Abstract
PURPOE: To explore the poible involvement of adrenomedullin in the pathophyiology of intraocular and orbital tumor. METHOD: Competitive revere trancription–polymerae chain reaction wa ued to determine adrenomedullin mRNA level in the tiue from 40 conecutive patient (40 eye) undergoing vitrectomy, orbital tiue biopy, or enucleation for variou ocular dieae, including intraocular (n = 4) and orbital (n = 3) tumor, proliferative vitreoretinopathy (n = 8), proliferative diabetic retinopathy (n = 8), age-related macular degeneration (n = 4), preretinal macular fibroi (n = 9), and acute retinal necroi (n = 4). REULT: Adrenomedullin mRNA level in the tiue obtained from patient with intraocular or orbital tumor were ignificantly higher than thoe of patient with proliferative vitreoretinopathy (P < .05), proliferative diabetic retinopathy (P < .05), preretinal macular fibroi (P < .005), and acute retinal necroi (P < .01). CONCLUION: Adrenomedullin may play a role in the pathophyiology of intraocular and orbital tumor.
