Abstract :
PURPOE: To etimate the prevalence of open-angle glaucoma, including normal-tenion glaucoma, in aociation with Grave dieae.
METHOD: In a propective tudy, a complete ophthalmic examination including applanation tonometry, exophthalmometry, automated tatic threhold perimetry, and computed tomography of the orbit wa performed in 104 conecutive Japanee patient with Grave dieae (age range, 11 to 86 year; mean, 42 year; 80 women, 24 men). Ocular hypertenion wa defined a an intraocular preure greater than 21 mm Hg on at leat two occaion during the period of follow-up.
REULT: Of the 104 patient, 14 (13%) exhibited typical glaucomatou viual field defect in automatic tatic threhold perimetry in the abence of compreive optic neuropathy. The intraocular preure in even of the 14 patient wa conitently le than 21 mm Hg during the follow-up period. Thu, thee patient were diagnoed a having normal-tenion glaucoma. Of the 104 patient, 23 (22%) were diagnoed a having ocular hypertenion.
CONCLUION: The prevalence of normal-tenion glaucoma a well a open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertenion wa ignificantly higher among patient with Grave dieae than in the general population
