Abstract :
PURPOE: To invetigate the prevalence of keratoconu in patient with mitral valve prolape (MVP). METHOD: Videokeratography wa performed in 36 patient (72 eye) with an echocardiographic diagnoi of MVP, and were compared with 25 control. All participant underwent lit-lamp examination and completed a medical quetionnaire about joint hypermobility, arthralgia, athma, and allergic reaction. REULT: Keratoconu wa found in eight eye (11.1%) (P = .056) of eight patient (22.2%) (P = .049) in the MVP group and in one eye (2%) of one patient (4%) in the control group. The keratoconu wa unilateral and aymptomatic in all cae. Conjunctival papillae were tatitical ignificant higher in the MVP group (P = .015). A tatitically ignificant intergroup difference exited in the preence of an allergic reaction (P = .001), but not in arthralgia, hypermobility of joint, or athma. CONCLUION: A borderline important aociation of MVP with keratoconu and with allergy exit. Patient with mitral valve prolape complaining of poor viion hould be upected of having keratoconu
