No clinically important effect on intraocular preure after hort-term adminitration of ildenafil citrate (Viagra)

PURPOE: To ae the hort-term effect of ildenafil citrate on intraocular preure in healthy male volunteer and participant in clinical trial. METHOD: Intraocular preure and pupil diameter were meaured in two placebo-controlled tudie. Oral doe of ildenafil citrate (VIAGRA; Pfizer Inc, New York, New York) ranged from 10 mg to 150 mg. REULT: No major change in intraocular preure or pupillometry were detected at any time (1.0–24 hour) after adminitration of ildenafil. Additionally, of 36 ubject with a medical hitory of increaed intraocular preure in the ildenafil afety databae, none were reported to have a clinically ignificant increae of their intraocular preure. During clinical trial, two glaucoma cae were lited a eriou advere event, but were not conidered treatment related. CONCLUION: No clinical abnormalitie were oberved in intraocular preure or pupil diameter in ubject receiving ildenafil. Currently, no evidence ugget that long-term treatment with ildenafil ha an effect on intraocular preure or i aociated with the development or worening of glaucoma.
