PURPOE: To report the firt Japanee cae of the uac yndrome characterized by microangiopathy of the brain, retina, and cochlea. METHOD: Cae report. A 36-year-old Japanee man underwent extenive clinical and laboratory examination for encephalopathy, bilateral recurrent branch retinal arterial occluion, and hearing lo. REULT: Thi cae wa initially diagnoed a acute dieminated encephalomyeliti. Depite exhautive clinical and laboratory examination of the patient, no evidence of a known ytemic dieae wa found. The bilateral recurrent branch retinal arterial occluion were widely dieminated. Remiion occurred 1 year after ymptom onet. Thi patient demontrated all of the clinical feature aociated with the uac yndrome. CONCLUION: uac yndrome ha been conidered rare, but it i probably more common than previouly thought and eem to occur in any race. Thi diorder uually occur in young women, but it can affect men
