Ocular ide-effect from ytemic HPMPC (Cidofovir) for a non–ocular cytomegaloviru infection

%PURPOE: To report a cae of anterior uveiti and ocular hypotony during HPMPC treatment of a cytomegaloviru infection without ophthalmic involvement. METHOD: A 61-year-old biexual white man with AID preented with moderate anterior uveiti and ocular hypotony after 8 week of intravenou HPMPC and oral probenecid co-treatment of a preumed recurrence of cytomegaloviru encephaliti. REULT: There wa no evidence of an ocular cytomegaloviru infection. Cidofovir-related uveiti wa diagnoed, and the HPMPC-probenecid co-treatment wa witched to ganciclovir monotherapy. The ocular inflammation wa uccefully managed with topical teroid and mydriatic. CONCLUION: Thi decription of ophthalmic ide effect from ytemic HPMPC in the abence of ocular cytomegaloviru infection upport the hypothei that anterior uveiti and ocular hypotony reult from a direct interaction between the drug and the ciliary body
