Abstract
PURPOE: To report the optical coherence tomographic feature of macular hole cloure in the firt month after vitreou urgery.
METHOD: We tudied propectively the tomographic feature of 28 eye (28 patient) with idiopathic macular hole before and after vitreou urgery by optical coherence tomography. We compared the bet-corrected viual acuity level with the potoperative tomographic feature.
REULT: The 25 eye with uccefully ealed macular hole had one of two tomographic feature within 1 month potoperatively: imple cloure (normal foveal configuration) in 14 eye (56%) or a bridge formation at the fovea that mimicked a foveal retinal detachment in 11 eye (44%). It took an average of 2.0 month (range, 0.8 to 3.5 month) for the bridge tiue to attach to the retinal pigment epithelium. Bet-corrected viual acuity quickly improved in the former group; viual improvement began 1 month after attachment of the bridge tiue in the latter group. A cloed hole reopened 4 month potoperatively in one eye with a bridge formation.
CONCLUION: Idiopathic macular hole have one of two pattern early after urgical cloure, imple cloure or a bridge formation. Viual improvement tart after the fovea aume a normal configuration. The bridge formation appear to reflect an early phae and fragile condition in the anatomic cloure of macular hole.
