Abstract :
PURPOE: To decribe optic dik edema aociated with peripapillary erou retinal detachment a an early ign of ytemic Bartonella henelae infection.
METHOD: Multicentered, retropective cae erie.
REULT: Five women and two men preented with optic dik edema producing peripapillary erou retinal detachment. Each patient had a markedly elevated erum anti–B. henelae antibody titer. Patient age ranged from 11 to 44 year, with a mean and median of 26.6 and 28 year, repectively. The time from the onet of ytemic ymptom to the onet of viual ymptom varied from 3 day to 1 month. The peripapillary erou retinal detachment reolved within 1 to 3 week in each cae, producing a macular tar in four of even patient. Initial viion wa 20/200 or wore in five of even patient and improved in four of thee five patient to 20/30 or better.
CONCLUION: ytemic B. henelae infection hould be conidered in patient who develop optic dik edema aociated with a peripapillary erou retinal detachment, even in the abence of claic neuroretiniti with a macular tar.
