Abstract :
PURPOE: To report the reult of limited macular tranlocation in ubfoveal choroidal neovacularization reulting from age-related macular degeneration or degenerative myopia.
METHOD: The firt conecutive 32 patient (23 age-related macular degeneration eye and nine myopic eye) were operated on with the limited macular tranlocation technique decribed by de Juan. Before and after urgery, a complete examination included fluorecein and indocyanine-green angiographie and optical coherence tomography. Mean follow-up wa 9 month in the age-related macular degeneration group (range, 6 to 14 month) and 10 month in the myopic group (range, 6 to 15 month).
REULT: The improvement in viual acuity wa better in the myopic group than in the age-related macular degeneration group and wa correlated with younger age in the myopic group (P < .05). At the end of follow-up, viual acuity improved by 2 line or more in even age-related macular degeneration eye (30%), including four eye (13%) with an improvement of 6 line or more, and in ix myopic eye (67%), including two eye (22%) with an improvement of 6 line or more. Final viual acuity wa unchanged in four age-related macular degeneration eye (17%) and three myopic eye (33%), and decreaed in 12 age-related macular degeneration eye (52%). Converely, the mean foveal diplacement wa greater in age-related macular degeneration than in myopia (1,105 μm and 685 μm, repectively; P < .05). Main complication were retinal detachment (ix eye), neovacularization at the injection ite (two eye), and recurrence of neovacularization (43% of the age-related macular degeneration group and 11% of the myopic group).
CONCLUION: Limited macular tranlocation allowed a ignificant improvement in viual acuity in ome eye with ubfoveal neovacularization and reulted in a moderate rate of complication. Longer follow-up and additional tudie are required to confirm thee finding
