Abstract
PURPOE: To report a cae in which cataract urgery wa performed under local anetheia, with continuou poitive airway preure–aited ventilation.
METHOD: A 40-year-old woman with myotonic dytrophy and evere orthopnea, who could not lie upine becaue of evere orthopnea, and who wa a high-rik candidate for general anetheia, underwent cataract urgery with continuo poitive airway preure ventilation by face mak.
REULT: The patient underwent uneventful phacoemulification and intraocular len implantation in her left eye, while under continuou poitive airway preure ventilation.
CONCLUION: elected patient who are unable to lie upine for ocular urgery becaue of evere orthopnea, and who are at rik for ytemic complication under general anetheia, may be evaluated for continuo poitive airway preure–aited urgery.
