Laer in itu keratomileui: aociation with increaed width of palpebral fiure

PURPOE: To report the preoperative and potoperative palpebral fiure width in eye undergoing laer in itu keratomileui. METHOD: In a propective tudy, 165 conecutive eye of 87 patient (41 men and 46 women with a mean ± tandard deviation age of 32.9 (±9.5) year) had laer in itu keratomileui uing a ummit (Waltham, MA) APEX PLU excimer laer and a Moria (Antony, France) LK microkeratome. The width of palpebral fiure wa meaured preoperatively, 3 month or 6 month after laer in itu keratomileui. Patient were claified into three group a follow: hard contact len uer group (n = 61), oft contact len uer group (n = 63), and non-contact len uer group (n = 41). REULT: The average width of palpebral fiure increaed after laer in itu keratomileui in all three group. The hard contact len uer group increaed from 7.6 (±1.6) mm to 8.7 (±1.2) mm (P < .0001) and non-contact len uer group increaed from 7.7 (±1.9) mm to 8.9 (±1.9) mm (P < .0001). CONCLUION: Thee reult ugget that laer in itu keratomileui may be aociated with an increae in the width of the palpebral fiure.
