Modified tranpoition procedure of the vertical recti in ixth nerve paly

PURPOE: To report a modified tranpoition procedure of the vertical recti for everely limited abduction of the globe caued by ixth nerve paly and to compare thi with the Hummelheim tranpoition procedure. METHOD: Retropective tudy of 13 eye of 12 patient that had Hummelheim tranpoition procedure and 19 eye of 17 patient that had modified tranpoition procedure of the vertical recti for everely limited abduction of the globe caued by ixth nerve paly. The modified tranpoition procedure join lateral trip of the vertical recti and uture thi junction to the lateral rectu mucle. Functional reult of the Hummelheim procedure are compared with functional reult of the modified tranpoition procedure. REULT: Abductive capacity improved by 4.19 ± 1.67 mm in the Hummelheim group and 4.08 ± 1.7 mm in the modification. The angle of quint changed from +22.33 ± 6.74 degree to −0.20 ± 2.61 degree in the Hummelheim group and from +25.54 ± 5.66 degree to +0.95 ± 5.26 degree in the modification group. The functional reult a to abductive capacity and potoperative angle of quint howed no ignificant difference between the two method (P > .05, t tet). The modification wa le time conuming. CONCLUION: A modification of the tranpoition technique of eye mucle in ixth nerve paly i introduced. It functional reult are comparable to the claic technique of Hummelheim. Operative rik and trauma are reduced, becaue the technique avoid cleral titche and wa found to be le time conuming than the Hummelheim procedure.
