Conjunctival T-cell lymphoma caued by human T-cell lymphotrophic viru infection

PURPOE: To examine the caue of adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma. METHOD: We examined a conjunctival biopy from a 29-year-old Jamaican man who developed bilateral conjunctival mae. Adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma wa diagnoed uing routine hitology, immunohitochemitry, electron microcopy, microdiection, and the polymerae chain reaction. REULT: Hitopathologic examination revealed a conjunctival lymphoma. Clonality of the T-cell receptor gamma gene and human T-cell lymphotrophic viru gag gene were detected in the malignant cell. The demontration of the human T-cell lymphotrophic viru gene and the rearrangement of the T-cell receptor gene in thi neoplam provide proof that human T-cell lymphotrophic viru i the caue of thi conjunctival T-cell lymphoma.
