  • Abstract
PURPOE: To demontrate whether indocyanine green tain the inner limiting membrane of the retina or reidual vitreou cortex. METHOD: We report on the intraoperative taining pattern of the vitreomacular interface in 10 eye of 10 conecutive patient who underwent vitrectomy with indocyanine green taining for macular hole formation and diffue diabetic macular edema. REULT: In five eye of five patient with macular hole, indocyanine green taining of the macula after poterior vitreou detachment reulted in an immediate viibility of a dicernable membrane that wa not previouly een. In five eye of five patient with diffue diabetic macular edema and adherent cortical vitreou, indocyanine green failed to tain the vitreomacular interface. After peeling off the reidual vitreou cortex, however, a dicernable membrane could be identified uing indocyanine green dye again. Light and tranmiion electron microcopy revealed the inner limiting membrane a the membrane that had been tained and removed in all pecimen. CONCLUION: Indocyanine green electively tain the inner limiting membrane. taining of the vitreomacular interface uing indocyanine green a a vital dye enable the urgeon to ditinguih between the reidual vitreou cortex and the inner limiting membrane, and it allow afer and eaier removal of the inner limiting membrane
