Abstract :
PURPOE: To determine the prevalence and rik factor for glaucoma filtering bleb dyetheia (dicomfort).
METHOD: A propective cro-ectional obervational tudy of conecutive patient with unilateral glaucoma filtering bleb from trabeculectomy wa conducted. A elf-report quetionnaire wa adminitered, which aked about the frequency and everity of the following ymptom: ocular pain, dicomfort, burning, foreign body enation, and tearing. The following variable were recorded by the invetigator: age, race, ex, type and date of glaucoma urgery, antifibrotic agent ued, intraocular preure, location, thickne, and ize of bleb, percent coverage of the bleb by the eyelid, angle that the bleb made to the cornea, and the preence of epithelial defect or dellen. Dyetheia core between the affected eye and control eye were compared uing the paired tudent t tet. Rik factor for dyetheia were evaluated uing analyi of variance or Pearon correlation coefficient.
REULT: A total of 97 patient were enrolled in the tudy. The mean total dyetheia core (±D, range) in the affected eye wa 11.1 (±9.4, 0 to 42) and in the unaffected eye 3.4 (±4.9, 0 to 25, P = .001). Factor that predipoed to dyetheia included younger age (P = .005), uperonaal location of bleb (P = .036), preence of bubble (P = .028), and poor lid coverage (P = .013). The teeper the angle of the bleb to the cornea, which wa an indirect meaure of the height of the bleb, the more likely a patient wa to have bubble (P = .001).
CONCLUION: Eye with glaucoma filtering bleb experience more dyetheia than eye without filtering bleb. Young age, uperonaal bleb location, poor lid coverage, and bubble formation are all aociated with glaucoma filtering bleb dyetheia.
