Revied diagnotic criteria for Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada dieae: report of an international committee on nomenclature

PURPOE: To preent revied criteria for the diagnoi of Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada dieae, a chronic, bilateral, granulomatou ocular and multiytem inflammatory condition of unknown caue. METHOD: Diagnotic criteria and nomenclature were ubject of dicuion at the Firt International Workhop on Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada Dieae on October 19–21, 1999, at the Univerity of California, Lo Angele, Conference Center, Lake Arrowhead, California. A committee appointed by the workhop participant wa charged with drafting revied criteria for Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada dieae, baed on dicuion held during the conference. Thi article i the conenu committee report. REULT: New criteria, taking into account the multiytem nature of Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada dieae, with allowance for the different ocular finding preent in the early and late tage of the dieae, were formulated and agreed upon by the committee. Thee criteria are baed on additional knowledge and experience of expert in the field and are believed to reflect dieae feature more fully than previouly publihed criteria. CONCLUION: The revied definition of Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada dieae, with expanded diagnotic criteria, will facilitate performance of tudie involving homogeneou population of patient, at variou tage of dieae, that addre unanwered quetion regarding treatment and dieae mechanim.
