Internal carotid artery hypoplaia preenting a anterior ichemic optic neuropathy

PURPOE: To decribe the occurrence of anterior ichemic optic neuropathy in a young woman with internal carotid artery hypoplaia. METHOD: Cae report with clinical and radiologic obervation. REULT: A 38-year-old woman uffered from a udden, painle lo of viion in her right eye. The diagnoi of anterior ichemic optic neuropathy wa baed on the clinical coure and appearance of the fundu. Doppler evaluation of the carotid arterie, computed tomography (CT) can, magnetic reonance imaging (MRI), and CT angiogram all demontrated internal carotid artery hypoplaia on the ame ide. CONCLUION: Although carotid artery dieae (mainly atherocleroi) i not a common predipoing factor for anterior ichemic optic neuropathy, our patient had an ipilateral coexiting internal carotid artery hypoplaia and anterior ichemic optic neuropathy. We believe that the carotid artery anomaly might have contributed to the development of anterior ichemic optic neuropathy in thi patient.
