Abence of type I etrogen receptor in choroidal melanoma: analyi of Collaborative Ocular Melanoma tudy (COM) eye

PURPOE: To evaluate choroidal melanoma in enucleated eye for the preence of type I etrogen receptor. METHOD: Fourteen conecutive eye with large choroidal melanoma (defined a >16-mm baal diameter and >8 mm thickne) from 14 patient (eight women and ix men with a mean age of 57 year; range, 25–74 year) enucleated in accordance with the Collaborative Ocular Melanoma tudy (COM) protocol were invetigated. Immunohitochemical technique were employed to label the choroidal melanoma for the preence of type I etrogen receptor. Each pecimen wa then evaluated in a maked fahion by an experienced ophthalmic pathologit for poitive nuclear taining. REULT: No tumor howed immunohitochemical evidence of a type I etrogen receptor. CONCLUION: Type I etrogen receptor are not preent in choroidal melanoma. Etrogen are not likely to influence choroidal melanoma growth through traditional receptor.
