Abstract :
PURPOE: To decribe clinical, electrophyiologic, and immunologic feature of a unique paraneoplatic retinopathy with characteritic of cancer-aociated and melanoma-aociated retinopathy.
METHOD: erial aement of clinical viual function, electroretinography, and aay of anti-retinal antibodie.
REULT: A 51-year-old woman with progreive viual glare for 1 year had normal viual acuity and color viion, paracentral cotoma, and a normal-appearing retina. Electroretinography revealed no repone of the right eye and attenuated repone of the left eye, epecially thoe recorded under cotopic condition. Anti-bipolar antibodie were detected. ubequent evaluation uncovered adenocarcinoma of the colon. everal month after reection of the tumor and chemotherapy, no evidence exited of cancer or anti-bipolar cell antibodie, and electroretinography repone were markedly improved.
CONCLUION: The preence of anti-bipolar cell antibodie in a patient with retinal dyfunction i not pecific of melanoma-aociated retinopathy. Effective treatment of cancer may reult in elimination of aociated anti-retinal antibodie and improved retinal function.
