Evaluation of retinal damage induced by air/fluid exchange uing a trypan blue incluion tet in rabbit

PURPOE: To invetigate whether retina damaged in the proce of air/fluid exchange could be viualized in itu uing trypan blue taining. METHOD: Vitrectomy and air/fluid exchange with continuou air infuion for variou period of time wa performed in adult pigmented rabbit, followed by injection of 0.4% trypan blue olution into the vitreou cavity. Retinal taining wa evaluated intraoperatively under the operating microcope and by light microcopy after enucleation. REULT: Intraoperative examination howed localized trypan blue taining of area of the retina oppoite the infuion cannula. Light microcopy of the ame area revealed intranuclear trypan blue incluion in the retina. CONCLUION: Trypan blue taining allow for the immediate in itu evaluation of damage to the retina aociated with air/fluid exchange and continuou air infuion in rabbit eye.
