Abstract :
PURPOE: To preent a cae of rhino-orbital mucormycoi in a patient with AID and neutropenia managed without exenteration.
METHOD: Cae report.
REULT: A 60-year-old African-American man with AID developed neutropenia that wa probably econdary to antiretroviral therapy. He developed right rhino-orbital mucormycoi and wa treated with right partial ethmoidectomy with debridement and lipoomal amphotericin B. The infection wa cured without need for orbital exenteration, although viual acuity in hi right eye ultimately wa no light perception.
CONCLUION: Rhino-orbital mucormycoi i uncommon in patient with AID. When rhino-orbital mucormycoi occur, patient require a careful earch for an underlying metabolic derangement uch a neutropenia. Treatment hould be aggreive, but thee patient may not require orbital exenteration
