Abstract :
PURPOE: Previou tudie reported reduced aqueou humor flow through the anterior egment of the eye in patient with type 1 diabete. Thi tudy invetigate whether reduced flow i the reult of the diabetic tate or of alteration in glucoe or inulin concentration.
METHOD: A cro-ectional tudy, involving patient with type 1 diabete and healthy control, meaured aqueou flow at different inulin concentration. Eleven patient with type 1 diabete (hemoglobin A1C = 7.0 ± 0.3% [mean ± EM], normal < 6.5) with no microvacular complication and 17 control were propectively tudied. Control were tudied fating and during a hyperinulinemic-euglycemic clamp (inulin 2 mU/kg per minute). Patient with type 1 diabete were imilarly tudied during two euglycemic clamp procedure (inulin 0.5 and 2.0 mU/kg per minute). Aqueou flow wa meaured by fluorophotometry. Pulatile ocular blood flow and intraocular preure were meaured with a Langham flow probe.
REULT: Control ubject had no change in aqueou flow during fating and hyperinulinemic condition (3.0 ± 0.1 v 2.8 ± 0.1 μl per minute). In the patient with type 1 diabete, aqueou flow wa not decreaed with hyperinulinemia, compared with the low inulin tate (P = .7). Compared with control ubject, patient with type 1 diabete had lower aqueou flow during hyperinulinemia (2.4 ± 0.1 μl per minute, P = .03) and at lower inulin condition (2.6 ± 0.1 μl per minute, P < .05). No difference in intraocular preure or pulatile ocular blood flow were noted between group or between inulin tate within group.
CONCLUION: Aqueou flow i decreaed in patient with type 1 diabete under euglycemic condition of high and relatively low inulin concentration, depite the abence of microvacular complication.
